About Dirham

About

The re-branding of the mosque as The Central Mosque of Banjul captures its status as the venue of the regular Jumma Prayer and the EID congregational prayers attended by His Excellency, The President of the Republic, Cabinet Ministers, Muslim members of resident diplomatic and consular corps, Greater Banjul Muslim Elders and the larger Muslim Community of the capital city of Banjul.

Implicit in its initial name (King Fahd Mosque) is an expression of gratitude by the Government of the First Republic of the Gambia to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generosity in financing the construction and furnishing of the mosque through a grant.  Following its commissioning in 1988, the Gambia Government entrusted the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders (CBME) with its care and custodianship. The CBME in its wisdom, created and delegated this responsibility to the KFMMC whilst retaining its oversight authority. Thus, the management structure of The KFMMC is integrated to and inseparable from that of the CBME.
